What is a Root Canal?

A root canal is typically needed when there is inflammation or infection in the roots of the tooth. When root canal treatment is performed, the pulp (center layer of the tooth) is removed. The inside of the tooth is cleaned, disinfected, and the canals are shaped and sealed with a filling material.

Does a Root Canal Hurt?

No. Root canal therapy does not cause pain, it relieves pain. Patients often say their root canal treatment is similar to a filling.
